SOFTWOODS

Softwoods are used in construction such as framing, fencing, decking, flooring, siding, and other building applications. Douglas Fir, Pressure Treated wood, Western Red Cedar and Plywood are all brought into our Morgan Hill facility by rail car. Hence we buy in volume and can pass the savings on to our customers. We offer a wide array of softwood lumber products.

Douglas Fir
Straight grained and modestly heavy, Douglas Fir is one of the strongest of the softwoods. It's load bearing capacity equals many light steels, yet it is considerably lighter in weight. It's most popular use in home construction is in framing - posts, joists, beams, studs and rafters. We are the largest distributor of Douglas Fir. We are proud to carry Douglas Fir from the mills of Redwood Empire, Seneca, Weyerhauser, Roseburg, and Rough and Ready.

Hem Fir
Redwood Empire provides treated lumber in Hem Fir and Douglas Fir from the mill of Cooshead and Exterior Wood. The treated lumber is available in green and cedartone, ACQ, CA and ACZA.

Redwood
Using Redwood is an environmentally smart decision. It is a popular building material due to its beauty and long-lasting performance. Redwood has dimensional stability and natural durability. We stock a wide variety of Redwood garden and architectural grades and milling patterns. We offer Redwood in Rough or S4S; in Green and Air Seasoned on most items. 

Grades available: Con Common, Select. B Grade, Clear, Con Heart, Select Heart, Heart B, Clear All Heart. (See Sequoia Premium Decking)

Sizes available: 2x2 thru 2x12, 4x4 thru 4x12, 6x6.

Western Red Cedar
Almost as decay resistant as Redwood, Western Red Cedar is often used to make outdoor furniture and garden trim such as lattice work, pickets, and arbors. Interior uses of this light-weight wood include shelving, sashes, built-in furniture and cabinets. Items exposed to high humidity such as greenhouses demand the extreme decay resistance of  Western Red Cedar. Redwood Empire stocks dimension, split palings, grapestakes, split post & rail fencing, and fence boards.

Plywood
Redwood Empire offers a wide variety of sizes and styles of Plywood from the Western Woods mill. Some of the products available are: ACX, CDX, CCX, BCX and Pyro-Guard Fire-treated Plywood. We stock Select to Premium grades, 1/8" to 3/4" thickness, and generally 4' x 8' or 4' x 10' sizes.

SPF
We currently stock primed SPF Fascia, S1S2E, 1x4 thru 2x12 / 16' and 20'. We also carry not primed: 1x6 WP4 REV 16' / 1x8 WP11 REV 16' and 2x6 T&GV4E REV 16'.

Incense Cedar
We have incense cedar in sizes 1x4 thru 1x12 in fence boards and 2x4 rails and 4x4 posts.

FACTS:

Softwood species are under a classification named conifers, which means they have their seeds exposed -- usually in the form of cones. This has nothing to do with the hardness of the wood.
